In 2012, a group of EU Member States and Mediterranean countries decided to act. Building on the Union for the Mediterranean and EU's Neighbourhood Strategy, this group pushed for an international R&I cooperation within the Council of the EU. Subsequently, the European Commission came forward with a legislative proposal for Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean –"PRIMA".
ON 8th November 2016, Prof. Mohamed ABOUSSALAH, General Secratary of MHESRET, Prof Abdel-Ilah AFIFI, Director of Budget and General Affairs – MHESRET and National Coordinator of the PRIMA initiative and Prof. Angelo Riccaboni, Chair of PRIMA initiative, presented PRIMA initiative at COP22 Marrakech.

At the invitation of the Albanian authorities, the 11th Meeting of the Ministers of agriculture of the 13 Member States of CIHEAM took place in Tirana on the 22nd of September 2016. The Meeting focused on the root causes of distress migration from the point of view of agricultural development and food security.
PRIMA initiative and 4PRIMA project were presented twice in the framework of the FP7 project named "Water & Energy Advanced Management for Irrigation" (WEAM4i) in Ejea de los Caballeros, near Zaragossa, Spain:
Legal and financial aspects was discussed in PRIMA General Assembly @UfM Headquarter in Barcelona. Research and Innovation can pave the way for a sustainable future in the Mediterranean Area.

The next PRIMA General Assembly and an open Stakeholder event will be organised in Barcelona by th Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) on the 1st of September 2016.
The stakeholder consultation meeting will focus on priorization of PRIMA Objectives. It will be held from 15:00 to 18:00 at Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca - Via Laietana, 2, Barcelona. While
4PRIMA Coordination and Support Action started on 1st of May 2016 and held its kick-off meeting in Rome at Ministry of Education, University and Research, Viale Trastevere 76/a, Rome,.on 19-20 May. A General Assembly of the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) was organised back-to-back to this event.
