On 26 April, the EU's Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) reached an agreement on the "PRIMA" initiative, which will pool the know-how and financial resources of the EU and participating states to help develop water provision and agro-food projects in the Mediterranean region.

The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Ivan Surkos and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghafar opened on 23 April 2017 the 1st PRIMA Stakeholders' Forum. The event aims at engaging stakeholders to open channels of information exchange and raising awareness about PRIMA.

11 April 2017: The Maltese Presidency of the Council of European Union struck a provisional deal with the European Parliament on the participation of the EU in a partnership to develop innovative solutions for sustainable water provision and management and food production in the Mediterranean region.
4Prima project and Prima Initiative were presented during WEAM4i " Water and Energy Advanced Management for Irrigation" final workshop held in Barcelona on 6 April 2017, by CEBAS-CSIC.
The aim of the workshop was to present the results of the project and its success case studies as well as to make synergies with the different projects and initiatives working on the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus such as Prima initiative.
On 14 February 2017 Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, and Fathallah Sijilmassi, UfM Secretary General, discussed Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the field of research and innovation at the UfM headquarters in Barcelona. The discussions centered on ways to promote regional stability, human development and integration through Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in research and innovation.
MHESRET (Morocco) and ANR (France) in charge of the “Evaluation of possible funding mechanisms” for the implementation of PRIMA initiative (WP6-task3) have prepared a questionnaire to analyze the national rules of each funding agency in order to identify possible constraints and limits.

World Water Day 2017 will explore the theme of wastewater, and how it can be used as a valuable resource to create a more sustainable water future for all. PRIMA MEETING FOR THE ALIGNMENT OF R&I IN WATER & FOOD SYSTEMS IN THE MED REGION: SYNERGIES WITH EU AND INTERNATIONAL DONORS AND PROGRAMMES
On 12 December at CIHEAM Bari Italy, several international and EU bodies have particpated to Prima meeting (UfM, UNIDO, FAO, ICARDA, Arab Water Council, World Bank, DG RTD, DG DEVCO).
The aim of the meeting was to identify, compare and create synergies between 4PRIMA member countries R&I programmes in water and food systems and programmes/initiatives promoted by regional, EU and international donors in the Mediterranean region.
