4PRIMA Coordination and Support Action will create the bases and support for a long-term, well-structured and integrated partnership for research and innovation on food systems and water resources, between countries from both side of the Mediterranean Region, (PRIMA Initiative: www.prima4med.org).
4PRIMA will develop a Strategic Research and Innovation agenda and an associated implementation plan as a result of an intensive participatory process, that will target a critical mass of key players at international level and all relevant stakeholders of the food and water sectors.
Moreover in order to maximize its expected impact, 4PRIMA project will explore avenues for awareness raising and development of strategic alliances with key stakeholders including European Union, Associated Countries and Mediterranean Partner Countries that did not take part to the PRIMA joint programming process, with the goal of enlarging participation to the PRIMA initiative.
4PRIMA started on May 1st 2016 and will last 18 months.
To bring together the main national research funding owners and/or managers involved in the PRIMA joint programming process, including the non-European participating states and their institutions, around a jointly designed Strategic Research Agenda with appropriate governance and implementation structures.
A critical mass of players and increased synergies between all relevant stakeholders (e.g. relevant ministries responsible for sustainable agricultural production systems and water resources management, research institutions and universities, farmers' organisations) will be key elements for addressing the challenge
The overall objective is to create bases and support for a well-structured and integrated partnership for research and innovation on food systems and water resources, based on the principles of co-ownership, integration, mutual and shared benefits between the countries of both shores of the Mediterranean basin. To achieve this goal, 5 specific objectives have been defined:

Objective 2. Ensuring awareness raising and stakeholder involvement
Objective 3. Ensuring an appropriate development and uptake of the a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) on the food and water themes in the EuroMed area
Objective 4 Unlocking innovation on water management and food security of the Mediterranean private and public actors
Objective 5. Ensuring sustainable support to PRIMA by adequate structure and robust implementation plan.
